Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao when she came to speak in Lansing, Michigan. I was intrigued by the passion with which she spoke about unifying the African Diaspora for impact in Africa. I connected with her after the event, and so began a whirlwind of events that would transform many lives.
Dr. Chihombori-Quao is the African Union’s official Ambassador to the United States. In her role, she travels and speaks to African communities in the diaspora about working together for a better Africa. She also educated on neo-colonialism in Africa today and how European nations are still exploiting Africa. When I heard her speak in Lansing, I was enlightened
Unfortunately, on October 7, Dr. Chihombori-Quao received a letter from the African Union Commission’s Chairman that she is being removed from her position effective November 1, 2019. In the letter, His Excellency, Moussa Faki Mahamat gave no explanation for the termination. This has caused many to believe that the decision was politically motivated, based on Dr. Chihombori-Quao’s outspoken criticism of France and other European nations for their role in perpetuating poverty and control of African nations. It’s very sad to think that some of Africa’s leaders are against their own self-empowerment.
I started a petition with fellow believers in a better Africa to reinstate the ambassador. As of today, over 60,000 supporters from around the world have signed the petition. I’ve added my signature and voice to that number, and here’s why I think you should too:

After hearing the Ambassador’s talk, I just had to talk to her one-on-one and find out what I could do to help in the efforts to advance Africa. She gave me the great opportunity to be involved in a project to connect Africa and the African Diaspora. I’ll tell you more about that initiative here.
